Developing Today’s Youth and Future Firefighters of America

Supporting local youth interested in the Fire Service.

In partnership with the Napa City Firefighters Association, the Napa Fire Department is happy to host Explorer Post 220. As a branch of the Boy Scouts of America, the Explorers are made up of boys and girls aged 14-21 who have an interest in the fire service.

The Post trains regularly under the instruction of Napa Fire Department personnel. The Post also does a number of fundraising events and offers opportunities to give back through community service. This is a great program for any of our local youth that may have an interest in the fire service or a desire to give back to their community.

Fire/Rescue Training

Explorers train for two hours every other Monday night. Topics range from structural fire drills to wildland fire fighting techniques, to rope rescue practice. The advisor team is made up of full time professional firefighters from the Napa Fire Department. Throughout the year there are more in-depth, longer trainings on four Saturdays. There is also a voluntary, statewide, Explorer Fire Academy that is a week long every spring.

Community Involvement

Our Fire Explorers not only learn the basics of the on duty job, but the importance of the community we serve. It is just as important, if not more, to give back to our community through volunteer work. Post 220 prides itself in volunteering for multiple events throughout the year to help those in need.

Success Stories

Many of our Explorers have gone on to become professional firefighters. Explorer Post 220 helps instill the work ethic and knowledge to succeed in life be it as a firefighter or other profession.
